About Us

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We don't want to bore you, so here are a few basic tenets:

  • 1. Understand the Problem

Technology only makes sense when it's used to solve a real world problem. The first step to building an app or feature is making sure you know what problem you're trying to solve.

  • 2. Don't Create New Problems

Technology "solutions" often end up creating more issues than they solve. If a feature doesn't directly solve a problem, or if it's going to be impossible to maintain long term, don't build it in the first place. (For more on this, see our extensive blog.)

  • 3. Start Small, Reevaluate Often

Start with the simplest version of a project or feature you can imagine. Build it, use it, then improve it. Before adding anything new, reread tenets 1 and 2.

OUR TEAM

Matt Bartel

President / Developer

While earning his B.A in economics from Carleton College in 2006, Matt also published Secrets of the City, a Twin Cities arts and culture magazine. After Secrets of the City’s acquisition by Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine, Matt founded YouRankIt.com, a social preference aggregation platform, and Posse Media, a software design firm.

Through Posse Media, Matt has developed web sites, applications, and national social media campaigns for brands such as National Geographic, the Food Network’s Giada de Laurentiis, CaringBridge.org, and the City of Minneapolis. Since 2010, Matt has also worked as the Director of Web and Operations — and now as an independent consultant — for Blue Zones, a company that promotes health and well-being around the world.

Michael Amundson

Lead Designer / Lead Developer

Born with a JavaScript VM in his left hand and CSS Level-3 specs in his right, Michael was ready for web and mobile development before he could talk. Or walk. Or even crawl. A graduate of Carleton College in 2008, Michael got his professional start in the wild world of web development at 45royale, an Atlanta-area design shop.

In his time at 45royale, Michael worked on sites and applications for major national clients including Alienware, a division of Dell, and the 2008 Rudy Guiliani presidential campaign. In 2009, Michael became one of the founding partners behind Evolve, a website and desktop platform for gamers with more than 700,000 users and growing.
